Week 26: Street Vendors

Mrs. E and I took a momentary break from our photo collaboration
project (somehow the summer ended up being quite busy, for me for
sure :) She is always good about posting quite regularly, and as
you've seen, I am on and off!! But I am hoping this is back on our
schedule!

How he loves me...

You may have noticed that I changed a few things on the blog... Finally took some time to try out the new designs blogger posted and in the process decided to switch up the banner at the top of the blog. This is the photo I chose.

I remember the day this photo was taken, about a year and a half ago. We were about to start a whole day adventure to Jersey and back into the City through China town and into the Lower East Side into the wee-hours of the night. The photo was taken by photobooth on my computer. We both knew the importance of this photo. I even got it printed at one point. The prints, like most prints I have done, sat in an envelop tucked away... Until recently this summer, when I pulled them out and tried to put some of them on display, including this one. It's placed on the side of our fridge so I can see it whenever I'm cooking or cleaning in the kitchen.

Seth says it's the image that shows how he loves me. I agree.

You Are Alive.

Walking through a Movie Production

I got yelled at today... Well not yelled at, more spoke to in a rushed get out of the way sort of tone. I couldn't help it... I was just trying to see the action... Literally.

This is NOT how the cars park on this road. And it is also NOT a precinct... It's a private high school that's tied with the church just west of it. See all the people at the end of the road in the picture? They are all the movie people.

I'm pretty sure that is NOT a cop.

It's interesting how they change things for movies... Like the name of this building. When you watch the movie, you will think it's a precinct. To be completely honest, the gold letters on the building have me convinced and questioning if it was actually a high school or a precinct... Maybe I'd been confused before ;)

Here's where the cameras are rolling. I'd already been told I had to walk on the opposite side of the road. I just assumed being over there that I'd be fine to walk slowly and watch. Not the case. This is about when I get yelled at... I guess where they were filming was about where I was walking.

Anyway, if you are interested in seeing the movie (look for me in the background - even though I'm sure I'm not there ;) it's called Premium Rush. (but you'll have to wait a while before you can see it!)

Pigeon Guy

Everyone has their thing... This guy has chosen pigeons, and these passers by have stopped to enjoy them with him. We stayed long enough to snap a few shots before hitting the road with a quiver. What is New York City without pigeons? And even though I love this city dearly and I understand the place of pigeons in the city, you won't catch me letting them touch me, let alone eat out of my hand.

Swooning for the Sun

Two rainy days in a row around here. Today resembled something that seemed more of a fall day pulled out of October. I can't say I was terribly sad. I am craving another Northeast fall. Most of all, I'm just hoping Seth and I can pull a trip upstate or into New England for the fall colors!

This photo was taken back in July on an evening bus tour while my stepmomma was visiting. I actually have quite a few photos from the last month that I haven't shared... Sad right? Photos I never get around to share. My goal is to get back to photo sharing. (Why have I gotten so bad when it's so easy - I can literally email them from my phone!)

Although we didn't see the sun set, we did see the city lights under the clouds from our good friends' new roof view tonight. And I'll take that any day, even if it feels like the middle of November and nothing like August!

Moustache

If you are a NY subway ride, you've probably seen this around... Seems like someone has taken to drawing out the word moustache on the upper lip of portraits on underground ads. Things that make you go hmmmm?

More Photography

Just wanted to share the latest update to my photography collection. These three sisters have a few more photos posted at be a photograph - head over and check them out!

I still have another family's photos to complete and my brother's senior photos.... So it's back to work for me :) Just wanted to share really quickly!!

Feels like Summer's Ending

I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of summer... And even though the temperatures are still warmer (today was a perfect 80) on some days, I am already starting to think about FALL! Some of it is forced. For example, I have to come to terms with the end of the summer, which is partly marked by the fact that summer concerts in Prospect Park are OVER! If it were my choice, they'd keep going until Labor Day, at least!

While I don't want the summer to end (I barely pulled any beach days!!!! What kind of summer do I think I'm trying to have here!?), I'm also ready for the fall to come. The City is so wonderful in the fall, as the weather cools down and the season changes so beautifully. New York has some AMAZING trees that we don't have in the Midwest.

I'm also looking forward to a few trips north... I want to do Sleepy Hollow again and maybe even go further into the Hudson River Valley for a weekend away. I want to be able to wear jeans comfortably and even a sweater. I am starting a new job in the fall and even though I love the time off right now, having a consistent set schedule is one of my favorite things too! Weekends at the coffee shop would be a nice addition too... Summers are just too busy!

P.S. I have lived in the City for over two years, and we've been friends even longer... It's amazing after our time together that I'm still filled with such a great love for this place! It's been hitting me hard and often lately!! :) It's so much that I have to share it with someone!

P.S.S. Many people at this time of the year, who are in my career field, start to have dreams... They dream about going back to work. I hadn't had my first one until last night. It involved me working with kittens (cute cuddly ones!) instead of people. And it also involved a blimp making a crash landing On Us. Does anyone know what it means when you have kittens and blimps in your dreams??

Dr. Dog at Gone to Governors

Today's adventure was to Governors Island to see Dr. Dog, a band
playing a free concert this evening. Since we wanted to enjoy the 80
degree summer weather and make sure we made it out to the island
before it got packed for the concert, we headed out around lunch. The
band just got done with the sound check, which was fun because we got
to go all the way up to the front row with no one in our way!!!

Precious Babe

I can't help but share these photos of this sweet baby! She's only a week old in this photo! Isn't she just the most adorable thing ever?!

Horrible Blogger. Please don't FIRE me!

I've been such a horrible blogger lately! Please don't fire me! Most days, I have not even been on my computer - life has just been too busy for it. Today, I finally feel like I have the time, motivation, and a little creativity to get some stuff done... including the look change (what do you think? I might tweek some more), 2 sets of senior photos were sent off after I finally completed editing them, and even time for a little post!

Of course, there are 200 other things I really should be doing right now (for example: cleaning my house for my guests!) but I thought I'd take a moment and let you know I haven't completely disappeared. So if I haven't been here, where have I been?

  • Since I've returned from my extended vacation back home last month, I've been spending a lot of days planning for the new year and attending classes. I have about 7 more days of schedule classes left and will probably have one or two more days pop up for orientation.
  • Orientation? Yup... New job. Most of my family and friends know - because it's literally all I've been talking about! But for those of you who don't, I was so fortunate to interview and transfer to a new job (still in the city, but in Manhattan now and not the Bronx). I already feel 1000 times better about this job than I did about my last. I am very confident that the tables will turn and the horrible sick feeling I used to get every morning before work will be replaced with excitement!
  • Hanging out with friends... A lot. Summer is such a great time for that!
  • Spending time with visiting family. We had almost 2 weeks of parents here and my brother-in-law. It was so nice spending so much time doing family stuff. We'll take that as much as we can get it! (Sometimes I feel like Seth and I are always using our vacation to travel to see family and not to travel just to travel... but after spending time with family, it reminds me how much I value our time together, how important these people really are to me... and I don't think it really bothers me anymore.)
  • Photos. Photos. Photos. I did many session while visiting family including 3 sets of senior photos, 3 sets of children, and a portrait session. Which means a lot of work for me editing and preparing the photos! I'm done with 2 seniors and on to 2 of the children sets! Soooo much work (but if you are curious to see some of my senior shots, head over to be a photograph and check them out! Leave a comment to let me know what you think! I love feedback!)
Anyway, now I really need to get my floors cleaned! I just realized the time!! My best friend from high school and her husband are coming in tonight to stay the weekend! I love that this will be the 3rd time we've seen each other this year! The photo above was taken when I was in Florida earlier this year for her wedding... and I thought it would be fun to share :) even if somewhat random!
