Duke Gardens' Blooms

Seth and I just got back this evening from a long weekend trip to visit his oldest brother and sister-in-law in North Carolina. Here are a few shots from earlier today. We visited the Duke Gardens. It was beautiful.

More North Carolina photos to come :)

Portland: Hiking Waterfalls and Mt. Hood

Our first day in Portland, and I have to say I was quickly a fan. The neighborhood where Seth's brother & family live has a bit of a small town feel to it - houses, yards, porches - yet, they are within a few blocks of some really great blocks with many thrift stores (!!!!), coffee shops, restaurants, bars, their grocery store, etc... Yet, for feeling like a small town, it also feels cool like Brooklyn. Everyone does their own thing, the light poles are covered with stapled signs, and there's graffiti!!

We spent our first day hiking, hiking, and hiking.

We woke up early our first morning in Portland (as in normal NY morning time). After getting coffee at a neighborhood coffee shop, we jumped in the car and headed to Multnomah Falls for a morning hike with Ethan.

The view was breath-takingly (made that up??) beautiful! Up, up, up we hiked.

All the way to the top, where we could look down as the water flowed over the edge and plummeted down.

Flowers bloomed everywhere along the trail.

After our hike, we headed back and grabbed brunch at a local restaurant. As we finished up, P called to inform us he was waiting for us and we needed to get home to see him!

We spent the rest of the day hiking near/on Mt. Hood.

The smell of nature was so intense and wonderful! I had been craving it for way too long.

You can see the snow-capped Mt. Hood in the background.

After hiking up to Mirror Lake, we headed toward the top of Mt. Hood. The snow had melted down quite a bit since they had been up there last month, but there was still some for us to hike on. There was also enough for skiers and snowboarders to continue to enjoy.

Seth and P enjoyed rolling rocks down the hill for quite a while. I guess the boyhood novelty doesn't wear off after all these years ;)

What a beautiful day in such a beautiful place!

Colorado Sunset

Friday night, Seth and I flew from the East Coast to the West Coast with a quick stop in Denver to see the sun setting behind the distant mountains. I was definitely excited to get to Portland, but I wish I could have stayed in Denver for a few days to meet up with my grandma, aunt and uncle who are there this weekend for their annual trip (which includes a Rockies game!) One hour in Denver was all we had and off to Portland we flew. More of our West Coast adventures in Portland to come!!

One Year Ago

Sunset 1 year ago at the best fireworks show I've ever seen.
One year ago, I was in Texas with my dad, stepmomma, youngest brother, and younger sisters. We watched a fireworks show on the military base. It was a fantastic evening with the family and an absolutely fantastic show. Makes me miss them!

Spring Break

I spent Spring Break back home so I could meet my sweet, sweet nephew, Tristan. He's the most adorable little guy :) I miss him already, and I cannot wait for this summer when I get to see him again!! By then he'll probably be doing some more moving! I'll have to baby-proof my house for his visit!

He's really lucky to have such a sweet mama too!

Last Night in Utah

Today, we spent half the day exploring Arches National Park. We didn't end up hiking up the the Delicate Arch, but we did hike to the Upper Viewpoint. I really want to come again soon (in better weather) and do some more hiking to the arches that are further off the road.

Tonight is our last evening here. Dinner with the family. Tomorrow, we are driving back to Denver to stay with a friend before our early Sunday morning flight back to NYC... back to reality...

Upstate New York

I think it's weird that everything North of New York City is called Upstate New York (seems a bit pretentious if you ask me). But despite that, I headed upstate for an overnight trip for work this last week.

It was absolutely beautiful, and I couldn't help but wish to stay longer, exploring the forests and hiking in the trees, snapping photos at me leisure. Despite being November, the weather wasn't too chilly, and we only dealt with a little bit of drizzling rain for part of the evening (not enough to keep us from roasting marshmallows over a camp fire).

The leaves were fantastic yellows and reds. The sun light was perfect.

The Catskills, where New York City gets most of it's water from.

The whole time I wished Seth were there to enjoy it with me... I think a trip upstate is in order! (And Jac, we must all go together, because P would LOOOOOVE it!)

Donuts, Shopping, Stickers

Family trip to Austin area today. One of our first stops this morning was a donut place with the biggest donuts I've ever seen!

The muffin on the left is a normal sized muffin, in case you need a point of reference.

The sisters before shopping. Like my teal sweater?? My siblings gave it to me yesterday for my birthday!! It was such an amazing present! I had mentioned how much I loved it in passing and was shocked to be holding it right before blowing out the candles for my birthday!

Below is a photo of mom, Em, and me.

Ohhhh the things we do to entertain ourselves. Here's my dad at lunch. The torture this time was not coming from the children :)
